Welcome to the web page for Quidditch 3D. The first thing you will notice is that I am a game-programmer, not a web designer, so I apologize the site isn't nicer. This game is a work in progress, and probably will always be.
The current version of the game is not very complete, and I am posting
it now just because people keep asking. The text file in the .zip
explains things, but here is a quick list of what's wrong:
-- The graphics currently look like what a zoo smells
like. Despite the fact that I do special effects work, I'm not much of a
3D artist (or even a 2D one). However, the Stadium was built by Wayne Yon of Caspico Entertainment
, and
looks pretty darn good.
-- No sound yet. This is rather at the bottom of my list.
Now the biggies:
-- Limited collision detection. Only ball-to-ball and ball-to-players
for now.
-- Collision reaction is not very accurate.
-- Limited AI. The computer just runs back and forth and catches
the snitch if it happens to get close enough.
Those last two will change soon, but certain people wanted to see the
game now, so here it is.
What is Quidditch:
Quidditch is a game played by the characters of Harry Potter.
It is played by wizards and witches on flying broomsticks. There
are six goal posts and four balls. The balls are as follows:
1 Quaffle. This is a leathery red ball and the only ball subject
to gravity (though it has been enchanted to fall more slowly than other
objects). This ball is to be thrown through the goal hoops for 10
points a pop. In this incarnation of Quidditch the Quaffle is not
thrown, but rather the player must fly through the hoop while holding the
Quaffle.
1 Snitch. This is a small golden ball with wings (no wings in
this version, yet). It flys around on its own accord quite quickly.
Catching the Snitch gives you 150 points and ends the game. In proper
Quidditch, this is the only way to end the game. In computer Quidditch
3D, the ESC also ends the game (but no winner is displayed).
2 Bludgers. These are black, iron balls. They fly around
the stadium (actually called "The Pitch") and attempt to knock players
off their brooms. Since there is currently no collision detection,
they currently just fly around and try to sit in your lap.
Don't worry, we're getting to the game soon enough.......
System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows capable of running OpenGL fullscreen.
A Mouse with at least two buttons.
Okay, without further ado, here is the game:
Quidditch 3D version 0.0000000000000014
The game should unzip correctly, but if not, the Instructions.txt tells
you the proper way.
Enjoy!
